Over the last year, sparked by the 1940 census project, we have watched a new emphasis in family history/temple work flood across the church. People who used to view "genealogy" as an overwhelming task are now finding that there are lots of interesting and fun family history activities in which they can engage right from their home computers. The Spirit of Elijah is capturing teens, parents, and entire families.
In upcoming ward website posts, we will suggest some enjoyable things to do with your family related to family history and temple work. For those of you who want to ease into a family-history-mode, we will provide you with a fun activity idea in approximately two weeks. In the meantime, collect your photos of deceased ancestors and family members. If possible, scan them and keep the scanned files on your computer.
Also, those who patronize the Newport Beach temple are now encouraged to use a new drawer which is in place in the lobby of the temple. The drawer contains name slips submitted by members of each stake in the temple district. Ordinarily, we are encouraged to perform temple ordinances for own progenitors. However, most of us do not have names ready to take with us. In that case, we can draw names from the Huntington Beach Stake section of the drawer and do work for ancestors of our stake members! In this way, we help the families of our Huntington Beach brothers and sisters. If you have any questions about this drawer, or want to submit names for patrons to process, please speak to a temple worker or our new stake temple drawer coordinator,
Joyce Woerner.
